OLYMPIA - The Washington State Transportation Commission today elected Dan O’Neal (Mason County) to a one-year term as Commission Chair, effective July 1. O’Neal was first appointed to the Transportation Commission in 2003.
Outgoing Chair Dale Stedman said, “Dan O’Neal will bring a good deal of excellent transportation experience to the Commission chairmanship and is well prepared to guide the Commission through the very busy year ahead. ”
Commissioner O’Neal contributes both freight movement and legal experience to the Commission. He has actively participated in efforts to gain public support for improved freight transportation across the state. Governor Locke appointed O’Neal to chair a statewide Freight Mobility Board in 1998. He also served as Transportation Counsel to the US Senate Commerce Committee.
Born in Bremerton, Washington, O’Neal earned a B.A. in mathematics from Whitman College, and a law degree from the University of Washington School of Law. He also served in the U.S. Navy. He and his wife, Diane, live on Hood Canal.
O’Neal is currently vice-chair of the Commission. His replacement will be announced at a later date.
