OLYMPIA - Transportation issues in Southwest Washington will be a focus for discussion when the Washington State Transportation Commission holds its monthly meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday in Vancouver, Washington. The Transportation Commission will meet with elected officials and transportation representatives to learn more about freight and local mobility needs and to share information with Oregon’s Transportation Commission.

Following a tour of the Port of Vancouver, the Commission will start its formal meeting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, in the Port of Vancouver’s Commission Board Room, 3103 Lower River Road, in Vancouver. The meeting will reconvene on Wednesday, July 20, in the same location. Both days’ meetings are open to the public.

Representative Deb Wallace and Vancouver Mayor Royce Pollard will open Tuesday’s meeting. The Transportation Commission will talk about critical transportation issues with representatives of the Port of Vancouver and the Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council. These presentations are informational only.

On Wednesday, the Commission will discuss with Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) staff the work plan for the Transportation Innovative Partnerships Program. The Commission, with WSDOT’s technical assistance, is responsible for adopting rules; receiving, reviewing and approving proposals; and oversight of contract execution for this new program. The Commission must submit the final rules and guidelines to the legislature during the 2006 session for review.

A joint meeting with the Oregon Transportation Commission is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be an opportunity for the commissions to share information related to public/private partnerships and other transportation issues of mutual interest.

Also on Wednesday, the Oregon and Washington Transportation Commission’s joint subcommittee on the Columbia River Crossing project will meet at the Oregon Department of Transportation Headquarters in Portland starting at 3:30 p.m.
